Cutting optimize software
OPTIMIK is a universal software tool that allows you to keep records of jobs, documents, products and stores easily and conveniently. It offers functions for automatic pricing, calculations of cutting plans for panel and bar materials, automatic conversion of dimensions of product components and many other features. It is primarily designed for manufacturers of furniture and other products from panel and bar materials (wood, metal, glass), but some its modules (documents, store, directory) can be also used universally.
OPTIMIK uses the robust Firebird database, has intuitive control, and provides users with the possibility to edit and prepare print sets. Moreover, it includes an option of parametric start and data import and export. Given features make the software open for other applications and enables its integration into other application systems.
OPTIMIK program developed since 1999, has gained a lot of users for its simplicity and user-friendly interface. Increasing demands and requirements for new features have led to the development of entirely new and revised OPTIMIK of the second generation, which comes on the market these days. In addition to improved optimization algorithm and its enlargement for optimization of the bar materials and materials with defects, the program offers stock module, option to create any document such as invoice, offer, receipt card and issue card, recording of business partners, jobs and products, user editing print reports with barcode printing capability, data imports and exports, the possibility of multi-user access, etc.

1. Program Interface
You can quickly toggle between these modules (diaries) using buttons located in the upper left section of the window. To improve transparency, each diary has different background which also appears in other selected windows. The feature visually associates actual open windows with respective modules, preventing even an inexperienced user from “getting lost” in the program. The diary is divided into two sections, the left section containing the main table (stock groups) and the right section containing a subordinate table (e.g. stock items). Selection of a different record in the main table causes an automatic change of the content of the subordinate table (for example, if you select a different stock group in the left section, the table in the right section of the diary will show only items in the selected stock group). The ratio of the widths of both sections can be changed at any time by moving the central part of the diary (the widths in each diary can be different).
2. Module STOCK
In stock it is possible to register all materials, goods and services you want to use in your jobs or documents. Stock registers are divided into five basic types – panel material, bar material, edging strips, other material (goods) and operations (services), while for each of them you can create an unlimited number of stock groups, sub-groups and their items. Each stock item can along usual data contain also an image, a color or bar code. This information improves navigation within the stock and faster identification of items. Color is displayed in the table with a list of stock items, but it is also used, for example when printing the edging strips in cutting plans. The image is automatically displayed in the stock, but also by the stock item used in jobs, products, or cutting plans. You can also use it in print of the catalog.
Each stock item can be divided into different variants. For panel and bar materials is thus possible to register an unlimited number of formats (including formats with defects) and cut offs, other types of items may have the most diverse options as needed. Using variants it is possible within the stock items keep record of batch numbers, serial numbers, lot, location in the warehouse, expiry dates etc.
Stock card is automatically created for each stock item, and each move is recorded into stock card from job documents (receipt card, issue card, invoices…), (material delivery for the job) and cutting plans (format delivery, recording of created usable cut offs). The program automatically computes the current balance/reserve of stock items, as well as all the possible formats / variants. Also evaluates the value of this stock FIFO.
3. Module BUSINESS PARTNERS
Similarly, as in the case of stock items also business partners can be divided into different groups and subgroups. For each business partner it is also possible to register an unlimited number of invoice and delivery addresses, contact details and specifications (up to three per address). This enables to filter out a specific group of addresses (in combination with the city respectively with the state). So, for example finding all suppliers of Prague is a matter of few clicks.
In addition to the above listed options, it is possible to enter discount and taxes, which will be applied whenever creating a document for specific client. This way you can create individual discounts ( wholesale prices) for your regular customers or you can create document without VAT for your German customer. Further, it is possible to add for each address individual note, which will display automatically by each selection of the particular address to document or job. Thus, for example information “ Attention, bad payer”! can remind you of important fact and save your money and avoid problems.
4. Module DOCUMENTS
In this module you can register an unlimited number of many different types of documents such as offers, proforma invoices, invoices, receipt cards, and issue cards and so on. In addition to these basic types you can, if necessary, create any other types. Just enter the name of the document type, descriptions of its identifiers, numbering method and determine the influence on the stock reserve (no influence / stock in / stock out).
Documents can be issued in any currency, while prices of stock items will automatically be converted into foreign currency from given exchange rate. Each document can contain items and two unlimited long notes (placed in front and behind the table with items). Items can be entered manually or selected from the stock. To the item price can be automatically calculated and applied three types of taxes (types and rates are recorded in separate records “Taxes”) and additional discount in%. When entering, editing or deleting any item of the document affecting the stock, reserve and also the stock value is automatically re-counted.
The final document recap (the sum of all prices, tax basis and taxes) is automatically generated and if necessary you can add into it items adjusting total document amount (e.g. amount of pre-payments, etc.).
5. Module PRODUCTS
If you manufacture repeatedly certain products, you can significantly speed up your work if you register the products in this evidence. For the best possible arrangement it is possible products ( the same way as items and addresses) divide into groups and sub-groups. Each product besides the name, code and picture contains also parameters, which determine the material for production, the product dimensions or the number of product characters ( e.g. number of shelves in case of a cabinet).
When entering different parts of the product we do not select material from the stock but from the parameters. The advantage of this solution is that we can refer to parameters also by entering dimensions or quantity of each part, which results in a situation when we change outer product dimensions automatically dimensions and quantities of all needed parts change. The same happens if you select e.g. panel material or edging strip with different thickness.
To these products you can easily change anytime any parameter and enter them into a job.
6. Module JOBS
Each job can contain unlimited amount of products, while each product can consist of unlimited amount of items (parts). Items are selected from stock register; all you have to do is to enter quantity and description.
In case of panel material also part dimensions are entered, respectively of the edging strip. In case of material kerf ( e.g. chipboard) it is possible to set to keep kerf or not to keep kerf (turning part in cutting plan by 90˚). If needed it is possible to enter more parameters for length or width ( this way you can enter drawers head or neighbouring cabinet doors by which you want to keep needed interlocking kerf).
To each stock item you can assign alternatively also additional operations including accessory material such as lacquer, assembly, drill etc.. The list of these with their unit quantities is available in separate register named “Operation”. This way it is possible to increase the product price for the used material ( lacquer, screws etc.) keeping track of this material balance and avoid entering this data manually.
In window „Calculation“there is a table of quantities and prices of all used stock items. The item quantity is divided into groups: basic (entered directly), affiliated (edging strips, affiliated operations) external (material from external supplier, not from own stock). Above mentioned quantities are also increased by overconsumption (depending on stock item) so the final price reflects also the value of waste during the production process.
In this window you can also delivery out of stock single materials (automatic entry into the stock card causes a reduction in inventories), or eventually cancel this move. If this material was not delivered out of stock, it can be changed ( you can do bulk change of material to all items of the job or particular product).
Job price is given by the sum of prices of all its products.
Product price can be entered manually or computed automatically from the prices and quantities of its items. Apart from prices Optimik is able to compute also weight of each products and track its status ( not performed/ in process/ performed) and number of days to deadline. To each job it is possible to issue easily any document type (offer, pro-forma invoice, invoice…).
7. Module CUTTING PLAN
Only few clicks and all the panel and bar parts having no cutting plan yet, will be copied from the jobs into new ( or not yet computed) cutting plans. If the job parts/components contain also edging strips their dimensions will be reduced by the edging strip thickness. Cutting plans are created for each material separately and are numbered automatically.
Upon creating the cutting plan all which needs to be done is to start computation. However, before computation it is possible to set different parameters such as cut width, cutting method (length-wise, width-wise or combination of the two), limits ( max. cut length, cutting minimum, max. number of turns), dimensions of the edge cleaning cuts or even “limited” dimensions of cut-offs ( all created cut-offs smaller than set dimensions will be considered as unusable waste otherwise moved to stock for future use). The whole group of parameters is possible save and assigned to given stock item ( material). When computing next cutting plan for given material all parameters will be automatically defined.
Before computation Optimik transfers from stock all available formats. It is possible to expand this list of formats for so called “foreign” format ( for example if a customer has his/her own material), or ban to use specific format in the computation of the cutting plan or even privilege particular formats.
Automatic optimization is done when running computation and it is displayed in the status window. Upon completing computation the tables are filled with the list of used formats, saved parts and created cut-offs. New cutting plan displays together with statistic data.
Computation is completed even if there is a lack of suitable material, but the part/component list will indicate parts which were not included in the cutting plan. In such case it is possible to delete some of the parts from the list and start computation again. Deleted parts will remain in the job intact until they are assigned to next cutting plan.
If you are satisfied with the cutting plan, created by Optimik, confirm it so that all used formats are delivered out of stock and created cut-offs get in stock of useable cut-offs.
Each cutting plan is saved in database so it is possible to return to it and print it out together with the labels for each part. The highest Optimik version is able to export cutting plans also for specific CNC cutting machines.
